Anne McKenzie AM

Head, Consumer and Community Health Research Network

Anne McKenzie has worked as the Consumer Advocate at UWA and Telethon Kids Institute since 2004 and is currently the Head of the WA Consumer and Community Health Research Network. Her key task in this role is to implement a state-wide consumer and community involvement program across the WA Health Translation Network’s partner organisation. 

Anne is a senior consumer representative for Consumers Health Forum of Australia and former Chair of the Health Consumers Council of WA. She currently serves on key national and state health committees including the National Health and Medical Research Council, NPS, Medicines Australia and the Department of Health. 

In January 2015, Anne was appointed to the Order of Australia for 20 years of service in the area of health consumer advocacy. 

Hayley Harrison

Project Officer

Hayley’s responsibilities are to develop and implement resources, systems and processes to support the aims of the Consumer and Community Health Research Network across the WA Health Translation Network’s partner organisations. In this capacity she has been integral to the development of the database and a dedicated website.

Hayley previously worked at the UK South Central Research Design Service (Universities of Southampton, Oxford and Portsmouth) where she established systems to increase patient and public involvement in health and social care research. Prior to this Hayley has a long experience working at national and local level services in the National Health Service. Hayley is a consumer representative and a Member of the Board of the Health Consumers’ Council WA.

Ngaire McNeil

Acting Project Officer

Ngaire has responsibility for the communications functions of the Consumer and Community Health Research Network. These include, publication of the quarterly newsletter, advertising vacant positions and providing support to the Councils across the WA Health Translation Network’s partner agencies. An important aspect of her role is the organisation of consumer and community events including forums, community conversations and training workshops.

Belinda Frank

Research Officer

Belinda supports the implementation of consumer and community involvement to support the aims of the Consumer and Community Health Research Network across the WA Health Translation Network’s partner organisations. Belinda works with researchers to help support their involvement activities.

Belinda has served as a consumer member of the Community Advisory Council, on a senior level steering committee for the Chronic and Severe Diseases Research Focus Area at the Telethon Kids Institute and a committee member on the Princess Margaret Consumer Advisory Committee. She previously worked as State Manager of HeartKids WA, a Director on the Board of HeartKids Victoria and was a founding Board member of HeartKids Australia.

Rebecca Nguyen

Researcher Officer 

Rebecca supports the implementation of consumer and community involvement to support the aims of the Consumer and Community Health Research Network across the WA Health Translation Network’s partner organisations.

Briony Abraham

Administration Officer

Briony has responsibility for the administrative functions of the Consumer and Community Health Research Network. These include administration of the Consumer and Community Health Research Network's database.

Tanya Jones

Consumer Advocate

Tanya is the Consumer Advocate at Telethon Kids Institute and Princess Margaret Hospital. She will work with the Consumer and Community Health Research Network to develop and expand consumer and community involvement initiatives across these organisations.

Tayna previously worked as a project coordinator in the area of Aboriginal health research. In this role, her key focus was to support and facilitate the involvement of local Aboriginal Elders in research.

Ben Horgan

Consumer Advocate

Ben is the Consumer Advocate at Edith Cowan University and Curtin University. He will work with the Consumer and Community Health Research Network to develop and expand consumer and community involvement initiatives across these organisations.

Ben brings over 15 years of advocacy experience to his role. He has worked with Arthritis Australia as a consumer advocate and for the past six years has worked in primary health networks supporting greater community involvement. Ben has been a strong consumer representative and a patient research partner for almost two decades in local, national and international research initiatives.

Briony Williams

Consumer Advocate

Briony is the Consumer Advocate at The University of Western Australia and Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. She will work with the Consumer and Community Health Research Network to develop and expand consumer and community involvement initiatives across these organisations.

Briony has a background in exercise and health promotion, and has been working in health research since 2012. She has experience in working with researchers and community members to develop research ideas into sucessful funding grants, specifically within the cancer and primary care space.
