Cystic Fibrosis Smartphone App Project REF TK00669

Telethon Kids Institute is piloting an app for 12-17 year old’s with cystic fibrosis. We are looking for young people with cystic fibrosis to have input into this project. Young people with cystic fibrosis are at increased risk of feeling isolated and having mental health problems. The school environment may also affect the mental health and well-being of these young people. Few studies have explored school-based programs that may help students with cystic fibrosis.

About the Project

Researchers at the Telethon Kids Institute, with the assistance of young people, have developed a paper prototype of a smartphone app to support the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents living with cystic fibrosis. Additional funding has allowed researchers to take the paper prototype to production and pilot the smartphone app’s usability and effectiveness among 12-17 year old’s with cystic fibrosis.

About the position

Researchers are looking for two young people with cystic fibrosis aged between 12 and 17 years to be research buddies. 

What am I expected to do?

Provide advice on the research methods and instruments, including the survey questions and data collection process, strategies for recruiting study participants and incentives for study participants.

What skills or experience do I need?

We are looking for young people with cystic fibrosis aged between 12 and 17 years.

What is the time commitment?

A one-off one hour meeting via Skype

Where will meetings be held?

The meetings will be held via skype. Researchers will be located at the Telethon Kids Institute. The research buddies can skype in from any location.

What support is offered?

$30/hr for each consumer. Meetings will not exceed 1 hour
