The Telethon Kids Institute are looking for 10 people aged 14-25 to join it’s new Youth Advisory Group. The Youth Advisory Group will influence research about young people.

About the Youth Advisory Group

The Youth Advisory Group is a new initiative at the Telethon Kids Institute to ensure that research about young people is influenced by young people! The Institute is one of the largest, and most successful medical research institutes in Australia, with a dedicated team of more than 500 staff and students. Their aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people through excellence in research.

About the position

The Institute is looking for 8-10 young people who:

  • are aged 14 – 25
  • have experience of a health condition or health service (either personally or through a friend or family member
  • are interested in improving the health of young people

The Youth Advisory Group will:

  • Help identify research priorities for young people – initially in the areas identified at the Youth Forum (mental health, diet and exercise, sexual health)
  • Provide feedback and input into research undertaken at the Institute including how to make research relevant to young people
  • Have input into planning events for young people

What is the time commitment?

The Youth Reference Group will meet 4 times/year for 1.5 hours (either face-to-face or using video conferencing through mobile phones). Members are asked to join for 2-3 years although this is flexible.

What support is offered?

Out of pocket expenses are offered. Training and mentoring is available from the Consumer and Community Health Research Network.
