Do you drink energy drinks? Or do you avoid them? The Amped Up Project at the Telethon Kids Institute want 8 -12 people, living in the Perth Metro area, aged 12 - 17 to join a Community Advisory Committee. You will be able to help the researchers understand energy drink consumption in young people.

About the project

Energy drinks have become very popular among young people. Whilst they are marketed to improve the body’s performance, they contain high levels of caffeine, sugar, salt and herbal stimulants. Researchers at the Telethon Kids Institute want to investigate energy drink consumption in young people, including:

  • why they drink them
  • what they think of them
  • if they have experienced any negative health effects after consuming them

About the position

The project is looking for 8 – 12 young people, living in the Perth Metro area, to join a Community Advisory Committee to help guide the research project. 

What am I expected to do?

Consumer Advisory Committee members will:

  • provide a community perspective on the research including project name and logo
  • brainstorm ideas on how best to involve school students
  • provide feedback on project materials and survey items
  • assist with the interpretation of findings
  • provide feedback on the project’s recommended changes to policy and practice                                                                            

What skills or experience do I need?

  • Age 12 - 17 years
  • Either drink or don’t drink energy drinks
  • You will need to be able to attend two face to face meetings

What is the time commitment?

There will be two face to face meetings held over the duration of the project (2 years)

Where will meetings be held?

Telethon Kids Institute. Roberts Road, Subiaco WA.

What support is offered?

Out-of-pocket expenses are covered. Free training and mentoring is offered by the Consumer and Community Health Research Network.
