About the project

Together with the community the project will look at how different services from the cities of Wanneroo and Joondalup work together and how to improve the quality of mental health services for families with babies and young children (beginning in pregnancy).

About the position

Researchers from Edith Cowan University are looking for 3 - 4 consumers/community members to join the reference group as a consumer representative and to be a consumer researcher.

What am I expected to do?

The consumers/community members of the reference group will:

  • Provide a “lived- experience” perspective being a parent of a child 0-3 using services in Joondalup or Wanneroo
  • Contribute ideas and perspective important to the local community
  • Participate in activities of the group
  • Feedback to the community about the project

As a consumer researcher you will collect information and data from families with children 0 – 3 years in these communities under the direction of the researchers and project team.

What skills or experience do I need?

We are looking for a range of parents and caregivers with babies and/or young children (0-3 years), both mothers and fathers living in either the city of Wanneroo or Joondalup. We would also welcome parents who come from the CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) community and also those parents who are Aboriginal to apply.

What is the time commitment?

12 months. It is planned that there will be four meetings over the year for the reference group. As a consumer researcher the activities you will be required to undertake will be from August 2017 to April 2018. This will be approximately 4 hours per month for the 8 months.

Edith Cowan University, Joondalup Campus

What support is offered?

$30 honorarium per hour for meetings attended. Payment for tasks undertaken as a consumer researcher will be paid at the appropriate rate for such activities. The researchers and project team will offer training for these activities. Free training and mentoring is offered by the Consumer and Community Health Research Network for all other involvement activities in the research project.
